2000 Connector Industry Achievement Award
Bishop & Associates annually selects one individual that has made a significant contribution to our industry. The 2000 recipient of the Connector Industry
Achievement Award is President and CEO of Tyco Electronics Corporation and Vice President of Tyco International Ltd., Dr. Jürgen W. Gromer.
Or selection criterion is based on contributions made over a career, or a single contribution that changes the strategic or technological landscape of the industry.
Tyco Electronics' performance has been outstanding under Dr. Gromer's leadership. The major achievements of the past two years are noted below:
• Doubled sales from $5.0 billion to over $10.0 billion in less than two years.
• Achieved internal sales growth of 30% per annum, growing more than twice the industry average.
• Raised profitability (net income) to double digits, the highest level in the company's history, and 40% higher than the industry average.
• Reorganized global operations, focusing on end-use markets and technologies, while increasing quality and customer service levels.
• Acquired a series of companies with combined sales of more than $4.5 billion, quickly incorporating these operations into the Tyco Electronics' organization.
• Diversified Tyco Electronics into the world's largest passive components supplier.
Dr. Jürgen W. Gromer
President and CEO of Tyco Electronics Corporation and Vice President of Tyco International Ltd., Dr. Gromer has been President of Tyco Electronics Corporation since August
1999. He was previously Vice President of the Global Automotive Division of AMP. In this role, he was charged with expanding the corporation's market share and positioning it as a global systems supplier.
Prior to this, Dr. Gromer served as Divisional Vice President for Central and Eastern Europe where he managed AMP companies in Austria, Belgium, the
Czech Republic, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia and Switzerland. He was also responsible for managing sales branches in Bulgaria, Croatia, Lithuania, Romania, Russia and Slovakia.

Dr. Jürgen W. Gromer
Since joining AMP in 1983,Dr. Gromer is credited with significantly broadening Central and Eastern Europe, and especially the automotive market segment in
Germany, integrating and developing the company's Global Interconnect Systems Business (GISB) effort, and expanding AMP's presence in Eastern Europe.
Dr. Gromer serves on the advisory board for Commerzbank and is a board member and vice president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany.
